Everything we know about totes, written down.
Deep, practical guides on buying, selling, reconditioning, reusing, and recycling IBC totes — from the crew that moves them every day. No fluff, no gated PDFs.

About this blog
Written by the people who actually move the totes.
This is not a content farm bolted onto a shop page. Every article here comes out of the day-to-day work of sourcing, reconditioning, freighting, and recycling 275 and 330 gallon IBC totes. When we explain what a triple-rinse removes or why a cage bar bends where it does, it is because we have seen it on the line — not because we read it somewhere and paraphrased it.
Our goal is simple: make it easy to buy the right tote, keep it in service longer, and route it back into the loop instead of the landfill when its first life ends. If a guide helps you do that without ever calling us, we have done our job.
Prefer to skip the reading and just get an answer? Email info@ibctotessolutions.com with your tote question or requirement and a real person will reply. We run by email and web form — there is no phone tree to sit through.
Topic clusters
Four subjects we go deep on.
Most of what we publish falls into one of these buckets. Start with the cluster closest to your question, then follow the links into the reference hub for the technical detail.
Choosing the right tote
Grades, gallon sizes, cage styles, valve and fitting compatibility, and how to read a prior-contents history before you commit.
Size guide →Cleaning & reconditioning
What triple-rinse actually means, how bottles are inspected and pressure-tested, and when a tote earns a food-grade or rebottled label.
Reconditioning →Second-life projects
Rain harvesting, dock floats, planters, and workshop storage — plus the safety checks that keep a repurposed tote food- or garden-safe.
Repurposed goods →The circular case
Why a reused tote beats a new one on carbon, cost, and landfill diversion — with the math laid out plainly instead of hand-waved.
Sustainability →Start here
New to totes? Read in this order.
If you are buying your first IBC tote, work through these four steps in sequence. Each one builds on the last and keeps you from the expensive mistakes — wrong grade, wrong fit, wrong contents match.
Learn the grades
Before anything else, understand the difference between a rinsed tote, a food-grade tote, and a rebottled unit. It changes what you can safely fill.
Size for your footprint
275 vs 330 gallon is rarely about volume alone — pallet fit, door clearance, and pump height decide it. Our size guide walks the trade-offs.
Match tote to contents
Chemical compatibility and prior-contents history matter more than price. Read the reuse and safety pieces before you fill anything.
Plan the loop
When you are done with a tote, sell it back, recondition it, or recycle the HDPE and steel. Closing the loop is the whole point.
Why trust these guides
Operators, not marketers.
We handle these every day
Every guide comes from a team that buys, cleans, moves, and recycles totes as its actual business — not from repackaged press releases.
Sustainability without the spin
We keep industrial packaging in circulation. When reuse is not the right answer we say so, and we show the recycling path instead.
No gates, no lead traps
The full guide is on the page. No email wall, no downloadable PDF you have to trade your address for to read the good part.
Editorial standards
How we keep it honest.
We would rather publish less and be right than flood the page with recycled filler. These are the rules we hold our own writing to.
- We write from hands-on operations — sourcing, reconditioning lines, freight, and end-of-life recycling — not from theory.
- Specifications reflect the 275 and 330 gallon HDPE-bottle, galvanized-cage totes we actually stock and handle.
- Safety and suitability guidance is general; we always defer to your SDS, prior-contents records, and local regulations.
- When we update a guide with new pricing, standards, or practice, we revise the article rather than leaving stale claims in place.

Want new guides and inventory notes by email?
We do not run a spammy newsletter. But if you want a heads-up when we publish a substantial new guide or have a batch of reconditioned totes ready, email info@ibctotessolutions.com with “updates” in the subject and we will add you. Unsubscribe any time by replying “stop.”
Blog FAQ
Quick questions about the writing.
How often do you publish new guides?
We add and revise articles as our operations and the market change. Rather than chasing a fixed cadence, we update existing guides in place so the specs, grades, and pricing context stay current.
Can I reuse or quote from these articles?
You are welcome to link to any article and quote a short excerpt with attribution to IBC Tote Solutions. Please do not republish full pieces without asking us first at info@ibctotessolutions.com.
The guide says one thing — does it apply to my exact tote?
Treat every article as general guidance. Grade, prior contents, and condition vary tote to tote, so confirm suitability against your own SDS and records, and email us if you want a second opinion.
Do I have to sign up to read the full article?
No. Everything is on the page with nothing gated. The forms you see are only there for when you actually want a quote or a pickup.
